Sidney Yankson supporting the police in tackling crime in local businesses.
Today I thanked the police for the work they do in protecting businesses and liaising with local residents at ward panels at full council.
“Thank you Mr. Mayor. I also wish to thank the chair of the overview and scrutiny committee for this very important statutory function and mention two things that came off the page for me. The first one is the police tackling crime on businesses and secondly is the ward panel in terms of policing. We have 18,000 businesses here in the Royal Borough and I attend a number of chamber of commerce events on a regular basis and speak to businesses. The feedback from businesses is that the police need to do more, together with our community safety team, to make sure that shoplifters, whether they are on the Fulham Road, High Street Kensington on the Kings Road or elsewhere are charged, prosecuted and stopped. I also want to thank the borough commander for neighbourhood policing for attending, at my request, the recent chamber of commerce to address the business owners themselves. They can hear directly from the police about what the police is doing to make sure that the 18,000 businesses and 120,000 employees are safe within our business community. Finally, in relation to our ward panels, which I sit on a regular basis for Redcliffe, we thank the police for coming and speaking directly to residents. It is very important that we get that two way feedback and actually let residents know what the police are doing on a regular basis. I thank the chair of the committee and I also thank the police for the work that they have done, together with the neighbourhood policing team and the community safety team in the council. Thank you Mr. Mayor.”
